Concepts of Culture and Art

What is Culture?

Cultures generate value for people. The concept of culture has been interpreted in four main ways:

1. Inclusive Set

The pool of resources individuals draw upon to understand their world and its choices.

2. Social Formation

Creates a sense of shared worldview among cultural group members.

3. Dialogue

Built through dialogue and interaction among members; dynamic, not static.

4. Identity

Shapes the group's religious, linguistic and gender-based identity dimensions.

What is Art?

Art, as a human creation, addresses emotions and sparks ideas. It encompasses music, painting, theatre, literature, and digital expression.

Universal Language: Art speaks a language everyone can understand regardless of language, culture, or religion — the language of feelings, spirit, and creativity.

Forms of Art

  • Auditory: Music, song, sound performances
  • Visual: Painting, sculpture, photography, mural, infographic
  • Performative: Theatre, dance, community performance
  • Digital: Video, social media content, interactive design, virtual reality
