7 Components of Digital Literacy

What Is Digital Literacy?

Digital literacy is the ability to use technology critically, safely and ethically. For students and educators these skills have become a fundamental necessity.

Media & Information Literacy

Analyzing media messages, evaluating sources, and critically filtering information.

Digital Communication

Competency in effective, respectful and purposeful communication on digital platforms.

Data Literacy

Reading, interpreting, questioning data and drawing meaningful inferences.

Cybersecurity Awareness

Protecting personal data, recognizing phishing attacks, developing safe online behavior.

Digital Content Creation

Creating responsible, creative and ethical digital content with copyright awareness.

Computational Thinking

Decomposing problems, recognizing patterns, developing algorithms and abstraction.

Note: These 6 components complement each other under the umbrella of media-information literacy. Neglecting any one of them leaves digital competency incomplete.
